Licensing Application Procedures

Individual Producers
Oregon Resident
Pre-licensing training
Completion of pre-licensing training is required before taking the required exams. Applicants
for life, health, property, casualty, and personal lines insurance must complete:
- 20 hours for life
- 20 hours for health
- 20 hours for property
- 20 hours for casualty
- 20 hours for personal lines (personal lines training is not required for property and casualty
applicants)
Resident insurance producers are required to complete 20 hours of pre-licensing education courses
in each line of insurance they seek a license. A listing of approved
pre-license training schools is available on our website. The primary purpose of pre-licensing
education is to provide an overview of the insurance marketplace.
After you have completed your pre-licensing education requirements, you may take your exam.
Make sure you take your pre-license training certificate with you to the testing facility. You
will not be allowed to test without it.
Some candidates may be exempt from the pre-licensing education and examination requirement,
depending on the type of professional designation held and/or the line of authority desired.
The following applicants are not required to complete any pre-license training or examination
in order to receive a license:
- A candidate who possesses the Professional Designation CLU-Chartered Life Underwriter applying
for Life or Accident and Health Line;
- A candidate who has the Professional Designation CPCU-Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter
applying for Property, Casualty or Accident and Health Line of Authority;
- A person who is licensed in another state as an insurance producer for the same lines of authority
for which the person desires to be licensed in Oregon;
- A person who is applying for a limited line of authority
